Purchase a License

Preamble

In licensing these programs, I am trying to reward the altruistic deeds of others. I am a firm believer in open source software, and feel that by creating my own utilities, I can help the community as a whole. Likewise (for the J2EE components), I feel that those running non-profit or personal web applications should not be charged for software which lets them further their goals and learn more.

However, I do recognise that closed source and proprietary software is still very important for some businesses, and will likely continue to be important for some time. To this end, I am releasing the components of the Moss project under a dual license, which can allow these businesses to benefit from this code for a reasonable price.

J2SE Libraries

For GPL (or compatible open source licensed) projects, you can use the GPL licensed J2SE libraries without cost. For non GPL projects, you can purchase a license to use the code according to the following pricing schedule:

• For any single library, there is a charge of $100. This includes the right to permanent use and / or modification of the library in any project, commercial or non-commercial, regardless of the project's licensing. You can distribute the library with your project (but your customers are not licensed to modify the library or use it in their own projects). You are also eligable for free updates on any new versions for one year from the date of purchase.
• For multiple libraries, you can purchase 4 or more for the charge of $300. Your rights are the same as noted above for a single license.
• After the initial purchase, you can purchase the right to an additional year of updates for $25
• If a component has dependencies on any other Moss library (for instance, if a library depends on Common), the dependency libraries are included with the purchase, but are not licensed for modification.

J2EE Components

For personal or non-profit use, you can use the J2EE components without charge. For commercial use, a license is required, according to the pricing schedule below:

• For any single component (Cache Filter, Gallery Tag / Filter, etc), there is a charge of $100. This includes the right to lifetime use of the component, plus updates for one year from the date of purchase
• If you are interested in multiple components, you can purchase 4 or more for the single charge of $300. Like the single component purchase, this includes the right to lifetime use of all purchased components, plus updates for one year
• After the initial purchase, you can purchase the right to an additional year of updates for $25
• This price includes the use of any Moss dependency libraries in conjunction with the component, but does not give you license to use the libraries for other purpises. For instance, the Gallery tag / filter requires the Moss Image library; purchasing the Gallery tag / filter will give you license to use the image library for only the gallery tag, and will not license it for use in other projects.
